Monthly Scripture Memory for May

Ephesians 2:8-10 (ESV) – 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Catechism: An Outline of the Faith

What is Ordination?  Ordination is the rite in which God gives authority and the grace of the Holy Spirit to those being made Ministers of Word and Sacrament, through prayer and the laying on of hands by the congregation and other ordained ministers.

What is Holy Matrimony?  Holy Matrimony is Christian marriage, in which the woman and man enter into a life-long union, make their vows before God and the Church, and receive the grace and blessing of God to help them fulfill their vows.

What is Reconciliation of a Penitent?  Reconciliation is the confession of sin to God in the presence of God’s people, whereby the penitent receives the assurance and grace of pardon.

What is Unction of the Sick?  Unction is the rite of anointing the sick with oil, or the laying on of hands, by which God’s grace is given for the healing of spirit, mind, and body.

Is God’s activity limited to these ordinances?  God does not limit himself to these rites; they are patterns of countless ways by which God uses material things to reach out to us.

How are the sacraments and other ordinances related to our Christian hope? Sacraments and other ordinances sustain our present hope and anticipate its future fulfillment.
